  • Project Title: The effects and the evolution of labeling in Complementary and Alternative Medicine
  • Project Description: This paper examines the evolution of alternative, complementary, and alternative care as well as the implication of their definition on health care approaches. In the first part I looked at how these labels shift from time to time and what the implications are for the patients, physicians, and for the health care system. In the second part, I explored the fluidity of certain modalities among different medical domains by presenting three case studies; guided imagery for cancer patients, acupuncture for people who suffer from chronic pain, and the Zamboni procedure for treating multiple sclerosis.

  • Project Title: Problematizing Distance to Hospital & Emergency Obstetrical Services for Women Giving Birth in Ontario's Rural and Remote Communities (01/13-04/13)
  • Project Description: In this paper, I examined the 30 minute decision-to-incision policy based on a review of the grey literature in Canada. This review took two main criteria into consideration: 1) practitioners and policymakers have found that the policy and practice are incongruent with the evidence base, and 2) several recent scientific studies have suggested that the actual time between decision and incision should be either lower or higher than the 30 minute mark, depending on the urgency of the situation. This is part of a larger project that will consider the overall implications of distance to emergency obstetrical services on women and maternity caregivers via quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Publications & Presentations: Women's Health Research Day, University of Ottawa, March 2013
  • Where are you now? Caitlin completed the Graduate Certificate in Victimology at Algonquin College in 2014. She has since worked both internationally and locally with victims of crime. She hopes to combine her passions for victim care and health care by pursuing a degree in Nursing.

country perspectives on the migration of highly trained health personnel: Causes, consequences and responses", recruitment websites were identified through Internet search engines using specific keywords and search terms.   These recruitment agencies were then analyzed based on geographic location, the relationship of the agencies with Canada, targeted groups of health workers, methods used to target the workers, services offered by the agency, and other components.
